Shiatsu is a form of holistic bodywork, sometimes called Acupressure massage, with its original roots in Japan and in Traditional Chinese Medicine. It is deeply relaxing and is used to treat a wide range of health conditions, any stress-related problems, and for preventative health care. Increasingly developments in Western science may be able to explain how Shiatsu works at a structural and cellular level. Shiatsu is now a popular therapy, formally regulated by the Shiatsu Society (UK).
This course is for those who want to work with Shiatsu at a deeper level – either heading towards professional practice, using Shiatsu to expand on existing bodywork or energy work skills, or simply for enjoyment and self-development. The Acupressure Certificate course forms the first year of the Professional Shiatsu Diploma.
You will learn how to give safe, competent, deeply relaxing and highly effective basic practical Shiatsu treatments, including the understanding and use of Acupressure points. You’ll be shown a range of self-help techniques to improve your own health and wellbeing – including meridian stretches, breathing, meditation and simple Qigong exercises.
The Course is taught over 11 weekends a year over three years at the Norwich Wellbeing Centre.
The Shiatsu College offers the first year of this Diploma as a one year certificate in Acupressure. You can find out more here.
You can also take part in sessions of the Open Programme, which are one day or weekend workshops. These stand-alone short courses include Introductory Shiatsu workshops, for beginners to find out more about this wonderful healing art, as well as a rolling programme of related topics such as self-help techniques, Shiatsu for neck & shoulder tension etc. These workshops cost between £50-£75 each.
