Shiatsu is a form of holistic bodywork, sometimes called Acupressure massage, with its original roots in Japan and in Traditional Chinese Medicine. It is deeply relaxing and is used to treat a wide range of health conditions, any stress-related problems, and for preventative health care. Increasingly developments in Western science may be able to explain how Shiatsu works at a structural and cellular level. Shiatsu is now a popular therapy, formally regulated by the Shiatsu Society (UK).
You will learn how to give safe, competent, deeply relaxing and highly effective basic practical Shiatsu treatments, including the understanding and use of Acupressure points. You’ll be shown a range of self-help techniques to improve your own health and wellbeing – including meridian stretches, breathing, meditation and simple Qigong exercises.
The course also introduces the fascinating world of Shiatsu theory, from its ancient Daoist roots and Traditional Chinese Medicine through to modern scientific insights into the structure and dynamics of the human body and its energy field.
The Course is taught over 11 weekends through the year at the Norwich Wellbeing Centre.
The Shiatsu College also offers a three year Diploma in Shiatsu. Completing this course also means you become MRSS (Member of the Register of the Shiatsu Society) upon graduation. You can learn more about this course here.
You can also take part in sessions of the Open Programme, which are one day or weekend workshops. These stand-alone short courses include Introductory Shiatsu workshops, for beginners to find out more about this wonderful healing art, as well as a rolling programme of related topics such as self-help techniques, Shiatsu for neck & shoulder tension etc. These workshops cost between £50-£75 each.
