Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a model of counselling that focuses on the way we adapt our behaviours subconsciously to avoid distress and how those adapted behaviours re-enforce that distress. It aims to reveal the core beliefs about the self and significant others that lie at the heart of the problem.

When we experience emotional distress, we often become our own worst critic, which itself undermines any attempts to change. The mindful approach to CBT aims to promote your internal “self observer”, to understand the meaning of physical and emotional feelings and how to manage them. Underpinning this is the core philosophy of mindfulness of compassion and kindness to ourselves and others.

Mindful CBT is ideally suited to short-term therapy and can be used for:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Panic attacks
  • Body image problems
  • Low self esteem
  • Tinnitus
